Hi, my name is Cordaro Crawford.  I'm a  math teacher at Thomson High School. I will be teaching Algebra II for the first and second semesters of the 2021-2022 school year.  My schedule is from 7:30 to 3:30. I will be after school for tutoring on Tuesday and Wednesday from 3:10-3:40 but I'm here to help every day.  I'm a graduate of Paine College class of 2010, Business Administration (Accounting) major, and have a Master's Degree at Augusta University (MAT Program).  I'm also the Athletic Director for Thomson High School.
My Goals:

Goals are to teach the students and respect each of my students in my classroom because if they feel respected it would be easier to teach them.  When students feel respected they get comfortable and they then feel a part of the class and will work hard to do their best.  When students feel comfortable they are not afraid to make mistakes because they understand they will grow from their mistakes.  According to data, we all learn better when we make mistakes because it allows us to really focus.

Watching a video from Jo Boaler (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3icoSeGqQtY) she teaches that when you make mistakes you activate your brain and increases learning.  When it comes to NCTM (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics) it is important for students to understand the meaning of math and why we are doing it.  We will use a variety of symbolic representations.  Use NCTM (https://www.nctm.org/) to get resources to help with instruction during these different times. This resource is so beneficial for me as a teacher.

How to Achieve Our Goals:

My classroom will have positive posters and some math posters, but mostly positive ones to always motivate the students to always do their best.  My classroom will always be student-centered and all lessons will be scaffolded to serve all the students in the classroom.  This will give students ownership of their education and learning.  The students are the reason we as teachers work so hard to assure all the students give the information.

We will be using different methods of teaching but the main method we will be using is the "I do, We do, You do."  This method will allow me to see the type of mistakes the students make and I could address those at the time of the mistake. This method will allow all the students to receive the information before being given an assignment.  We will also do peer-to-peer work and learning virtually or socially distanced for students that would be attending in-person classes.  Students learn better from their peers and I could pop in and out of the virtual groups and also walk around the classroom to help other groups in need.

I would group/pair the students by their level of learning.  The groups/pairs would be decided with a benchmark taken during the first week of school.  The groups/pairs will have higher-level students with middle-level students to help pull them up to the higher level and middle-level students with lower-level students to help pull them up to the middle level.  We will also use stations that I would be able to pop in and out for students to get the reinforcement needed for all of the students.  We would be using these groups because I do not believe higher learners should be given the lower level students because that would slow their growth.  I would devote more time to the lower-level group so they can get that one-on-one instruction.
