Thomson High School will welcome a familiar face in the role of principal at the start of the 2024-2025 school year. The McDuffie County Board of Education approved the appointment of Dr. Sonya Strong as THS principal during its February 15 meeting.
Dr. Strong has served as THS assistant principal for curriculum and instruction since 2018. She also taught at the school three years prior to being named assistant principal.
“I’m just honored to serve my community in this way. McDuffie County is home for me. This is all I’ve ever known,” Dr. Strong said. “Our current principal, Trevor Roberson, has already started us on a path toward positive growth, and I want to continue on that path as we prepare our students for college, career, and life.”
Dr. Strong is a graduate of Thomson High School and has been an educator for 30 years. She has served as a math teacher, an instructional coach, and as assistant principal, all within McDuffie County Schools. Superintendent Dr. Mychele Rhodes said Dr. Strong's knowledge of the school system will be an asset to the staff and students at THS.
“We are excited to have Dr. Strong at the helm of Thomson High School for the upcoming school year,” Dr. Rhodes said. “Her experiences in McDuffie County have prepared her well to assume this new leadership role.”
