Welcome to Mr. Payne's classroom website.

My philosophy of teaching involves providing students with an opportunity to expand their horizons and begin to connect their lives to a global context.  My hope is that my class will engender a desire to be a lifelong learner and to pass on that attribute to others as the student goes through life.

Class Expectations

Homework and Classwork:

All homework and classwork must be completed in pencil or blue/black pens.  Assignments must be turned in at the designated time.  All work should be neat and legible.

Late/Makeup assignments:

Late and makeup assignments will be handled as specified by Thomson High School.

Notebook and textbooks:

Students will be issued a student textbook/workbook that must be brought to class daily unless notified otherwise.  Textbooks and notebook checks will be conducted randomly throughout the semester.   Please review the suggested supply list regarding the notebook.

Class Rules:

Students are to follow the school-wide expectations as outlined in the Agenda Book and the Student Code of Conduct.  However, students are reminded that THS is the place to be (1) Respectful, (2) Responsible, (3) Ready, Integrity (4) and Empathy.

Technology:

As new technologies continue to change the world in which we live, they also provide many new and positive educational benefits for classroom instruction. Incorporating this initiative, students are ONLY allowed to use their devices at the invitation of the teacher. Students participating in BYOT with the express consent of their parents or guardians must adhere to the Student Code of Conduct, as well as all Board policies.  Personal devices should not be "out" during class.

PowerSchool:

Students and parents/guardians should use PowerSchool to keep track of their grades in this class. If an assignment is missing (no work has been completed), it will be flagged with a missing (orange) and incomplete (blue) code. If an assignment is partially completed, it will be flagged with ONLY an incomplete (blue) code. If you see an assignment listed as EXEMPT (coded with the color purple), this means that the student does not have to complete the assignment.
