Course Description:  In this course, we will examine all aspects of basic psychology. Psychology is the scientific study of behavior and mental processes. It is a unique science that often necessitates the use of special measurements and research methods..

Course Content: All topics covered in this course are based on the Georgia Performance Standards. These can be referenced at this link.

Unit 1: Psychology Foundations and Research Unit 4: Variability of Behavior among Individuals and Groups

Unit 2: Biological Foundations Unit 5: Social Psychology

Unit 3: Change in Behavior and Cognition

Common Formative Assessments: The common formative assessment (CFA) will be given every Tuesday for the entire semester. These assessments DO NOT count towards students' overall grades but are used to measure how well students will do on upcoming quizzes, tests, and the final exam.

The Final Exam: The final exam will be administered close to the end of the semester and will cover content from all 5 units of this course. Performing well on the exam is essential for all students, for the scores count for 20% of students’ semester average and could potentially determine whether a student passes the class. I recommend that all students take advantage of the helpful tools on the website in preparation for the final exam.

Grading: 30% - Daily/Homework 30% - Test/Essay/Project

20% - Quiz/Lab 20% - Final/EOC

Projects: The projects assigned throughout this course are designed to allow students to apply the knowledge gained in class in real-world, practical ways. Submitted projects should demonstrate mastery of the standards covered.

Required Materials:

1 or 1 ½” 3-ring binder

College Ruled Notebook Paper AND Graphing Paper

Pencil/Pen

Highlighters

Headphones/earbuds

  • MUST CONNECT TO THE CHROMEBOOKS - Students who do not have these will need to purchase one for a $1 in the Media Center before completing any assignments where headphones are required

Late Assignments: If an assignment is late, 5 points will be deducted from the student’s score for every calendar day past the due date. After five calendar days past the due date, the assignments will not be accepted.

Retaking Failed Tests: Students will complete test corrections on their own time (these will NOT be completed in class).  Students will have one week after the test is returned to turn in corrections and ask for clarification, if needed. The failed test grade will remain in PowerSchool if test corrections are not completed. Retesting must be done within two days of turning in the test corrections (retest time will be determined on a case-by-case basis).

Retaking Failed Assignments: TESTS/PROJECTS are the ONLY assignments that can be retaken/redone if you fail it. Quizzes and Classwork/Daily Assignments will not be redone/retaken if you fail them.

Bell Ringers & Ticket Out The Doors: Bell Ringers and Ticket Out The Doors (TOTDs) will be given at the beginning/end of each class period. Students are HIGHLY encouraged to keep up with these (if a student is absent, it is their responsibility to ask a classmate for it). Bell Ringer/TOTD Pop Quizzes will take place sporadically throughout the semester for quiz grades.

Make-up Work: Students must be present and on time for every class period. If circumstances prohibit a student from attending school, upon his/her return, that student must present to me an excuse from the office. All make-up work must be completed and turned in to me within five (5) school days of them returning. After five days, a grade of zero (0) will be given. It is the student’s responsibility to request make-up work and/or review of material missed. STUDENTS are responsible for checking the make-up folder and/or Google Classroom for their missing work upon returning to class.
