Course Description: This course will emphasize how to make history a reality by students opening their minds and books when they see history through the eyes of the people who lived it. It will help students to examine daily life in different eras and link events across time to the broad themes of history. Also, inquiry-based activities and point-of-use questions will allow students to think through history and synthesize what they have read. This is an EOC course and the exam will be given at the end of the semester.

Common Formative Assessments: The common formative assessment (CFA) will be given weekly (usually Tuesday) for the entire semester. These assessments help to measure how well students will do on the final exam.
Assessments: Tests, quizzes, and CFAs are cumulative and will cover all material taught from the beginning of the semester to the date the assessment is given. Students are expected to recall all necessary material due to the Georgia Milestones End of Course Exam taken at the end of the semester.
The Final Exam: The final exam will be administered close to the end of the school year and will cover content from all five domains of this course. Performing well on the exam is essential for all students, for the scores count for 20% of students’ semester averages and could determine whether a student passes the class. Therefore, I recommend that all students take advantage of the helpful tools on the website in preparation for the final exam.
Projects: The projects assigned throughout this course are designed to allow students to apply the knowledge gained in class. Submitted projects should demonstrate mastery of the standards covered.
Required Materials:
2 or 1 ½” 3-ring binder
Paper
Pencil/Pen
Highlighters
Headphones/earbuds (MUST CONNECT TO THE CHROMEBOOKS)
Colored Pencils/Crayons/Markers (You may choose one of the three.)
Late Assignments: If an assignment is late, 5 points will be deducted from the student’s score for every calendar day past the due date. After five calendar days past the due date, the assignments will not be accepted.
Retaking Failed Tests: Students will complete test corrections after school during two tutoring sessions offered Monday through Thursday from 3:30 to 5:00 pm. Students will have one week after the test is returned to turn in corrections and attend the two tutoring sessions. The failed test grade will remain in PowerSchool if test corrections are incomplete. Retesting must be done within two days of turning in the test corrections (retest time will be determined on a case-by-case basis).
Retaking Failed Assignments: TESTS/PROJECTS are the ONLY assignments that can be retaken/redone if you fail them. Quizzes and Classwork/Daily Assignments will not be redone/retaken if you fail them.
Bell Ringers & Ticket Out The Doors: Bell Ringers and Ticket Out The Doors (TOTDs) will be given at the beginning/end of each class period. These will be sporadically taken up for classwork/daily grades. If a student is present on the day it is collected but DOES NOT turn it in, they will NOT have the option to make this assignment up. If a student is absent on the day it is collected, they can make it up based on the make-up work policy below.
Make-up Work: Students must be present and on time for every class period. If circumstances prohibit a student from attending school, please email as soon as possible. All make-up work must be completed and turned in to me within five days. After five days, a grade of zero (0) will be given. It is the student’s responsibility to request make-up work and review missed material.
