welcome to 10th grade world literature my name is Gabrielle this is my second year teaching at Thompson High School 3rd year teaching overall if you have questions about me or anything about me as Master goes on but if you have any other questions feel free to ask welcome to 10th grade world literature the first thing we're going to do is go over this still this whole Google slide presentation video is essentially about the syllabus and what to expect in my classroom, so if you click on that it will take you to but the syllabus for our class make sure you do that and there's a part at the bottom that you will have to sign but we will go over that at the end of this video price of the class over we go purpose of this class is to build a foundation for College and Career Readiness students must increasingly challenging literary and inflammation this course will include independent in class and out of class essays research and other assignments as an ounce at an accelerated pace students will gain literary and cultural Knowledge from Reading various pieces of literature and informational text they will develop understanding of critical thinking and writing strategies to prepare them for further study topics on George standards of excellence for English 10th grade to include informational and literary text standards will focus on citation of to support elements of plot and figurative language usage students also will be tasked to complete a research paper about won't be later until later in the semester but we will get there I'll take a look at the text books that I have listed here so we are going to be using the mirrors and windows textbook and this is the only one on the slide that does not have a link that connects to a PDF there is no online version unless you purchase it and our school does not have that so this is the only one that is just a picture however we will be be actually starting off with The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins so I've got that here if you click on the book I'll take you to the PDF of The Hunger Games in the same for the rest of these as well so we have the Hunger Games that we have A Midsummer Night's Dream animal farm and night the required materials for you to have you need to have your own loose leaf paper you need to have your own pens and pencils and make sure if they're using a pen that it is only black or blue ink it makes it a lot beer for me to grade your papers if they are black luang in so this is how the grades are going to be broken down this year so your daily and homework grades are going to count for about 10% of your overall grade your quizzes and Labs will be 30% test as Aiden projects will be 40% and then the EOC or final exam is 20% now this is 10 for the world so we do not have an EOC but we do have a final exam so keep that in mind when we take notes everything the semester you are going to need those notes to study for your final exam and know on quizzes your weekly journals that I have you do Miss class count as quizzes make sure you are doing them and turning them in if you don't do the journals you will feel this class I'm just giving you a heads up right now but there these girls you guys isn't easy grade just make sure you get it done so this is what to expect in the class will be getting group independent projects that stays small writing assignments reading almost everyday group tests and quizzes and review games all right. This is a huge thing you guys don't do it by now you should know what plagiarism is if not we including but not limited to copying someone's work allowing your work to be copied not working individually when instructed to do so copying and pasting from an online resource or otherwise Elsa's work off as your own intentionally or thought is prohibited and will be finalized according to the code of conduct please do not plagiarize you guys I know it's super easy especially with online learning to do plagiarism and just copy and copy and paste right from Google but you guys it's really easy for me to know when you do that don't do it I will catch you you will not get past me discipline discipline measure Progressive and will be followed according to the student handbook book and the code of conduct in my classroom I expect you guys to be respectful mature punctual unprepared miss work if a student misses class they will be able to find the work that they miss in the miss work file in the classroom this is located on top of the filing cabinet in the back of the room nearby the missing Park will be here in that file with red their name written on it in red pen however if this is online then you can just turn those missing assignments in on Google classroom but it will let me know that it is a late assignment and that brings us to lay to sign it so missing work may only be handed in within a quarter for which it was originally inside so for example of an aside during the first quarter I will not be accepting it during the second quarter so once we hit that next week's I will no longer be accepting from the previous I will give you guys plenty of warning and reminders before the end of the first nine weeks just make sure you're paying attention if you have a planner make sure you write that stuff down alright so here's some of my contact information so my email is on here the remind 101 code for our class so you want to use this first one right here do not use the second semester 1 use the first semester so at a ga10 so you can text code 28101 0 and it'll sign you up for our remind your Google Classroom code will be provided on the first day of school so I will send out a message with our Google Classroom code and if you are in-person 10 and then the school's phone number is there as well so the last thing I need for you guys to do is if you click on this Samsung cell phone over here there's a link there that'll take you to so if you have already looked at the paper syllabus for the Google Doc of the syllabus says fill out the information and cut and return to miss Gabrielle if we are online it's a lot harder to do that even if we are in class then this is going to make the process so much easier do not worry about getting me to fill out the Google so what you're going to do is you're going to go in there you're going to tell me what class you're in give me your name and then do a signature and then I need your parents or Guardians name and their signature and then their phone number their email address and then they need to let me know whether or not they want to sign up for the remind as well so this is something that you guys need to fill out and get your parent or guardian and that you should be looking at the syllabus with you as well so make sure you guys do that because this is a great filling out this Google form is a grade signing up for remind is a grade and signing up for the Google Classroom is a grade these are easy points to start off the year you guys make sure you do them all right and that is it for the welcome video
